Social support has been identified as a key factor in the well-being of people living with HIV, influencing their mental health, treatment adherence, and clinical outcomes. The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific evidence regarding the main sources of social support among people living with HIV and their impact on different health dimensions. A systematic literature review was conducted based on the PRISMA 2020 methodology. Quantitative studies published in the last ten years in English and Spanish were included, retrieved from PubMed, PsycInfo, Scopus, Medline, and Scielo databases. Out of a total of 209 identified articles, only 10 met the inclusion criteria and methodological quality standards. The findings indicate that social support is associated with lower levels of depressive symptoms, greater adherence to antiretroviral treatment, and more favorable clinical outcomes, particularly viral suppression. The main sources of support identified were family, partners, peers, and healthcare services, which interact in an interdependent manner. It is concluded that social support should not be viewed as an additional element, but rather as a fundamental component in comprehensive HIV care. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen interventions that address both the individual and their social environment.
